An open armchair by Howard and sons C1870. The frame is in great original condition with turned legs and arm supports with gilt details, on original cope and collinson patent casters, used by Howard before starting to name stamp their casters. The rear leg is also serial number stamped. This armchair has had a sympathetic upholstery restoration. The horse hair seat pad has been removed., new webbing and hessian installed and the original seat pad reinstated. The chair still had its original fabric but this had deteriorated beyond being usable. We have replaced the fabric with a very similar fabric to the original. It is an antique cut velvet fabric which has been applied faithful to the original upholstery, copying the stitched edges and braiding. The velvet is from a rare unused antique roll so has very minor signs of age fading in places. Seat height 39cm
